CHEMICAL PROCESS

Small Molecule Synthesis Hazard Assessment A complete hazard assessment using the clients proprietary risk assessment tools was produced for this San Francisco Bay Area process plant. Kensington Consulting prepared the hazard assessment for a relocated processing facility being constructed to synthesize new small molecule (potent compund) substances for potential therapeutic studies.

Transportation Quantitative Risk Assessment (TQRA) A comprehensive transportation risk assessment and quantification report was produced for this Louisiana process plant. Kensington Consulting prepared the TQRA for a proposed significant increase in chlorine consumption requirements developing both exisiting literature on the topic as well as providing an independent set of calculations specific to client circumstances.

Transportation Quantitative Risk Assessment (TQRA) A comprehensive transportation risk assessment and quantification study was produced for this US process plant. The study examined various transportation routes and modes of dangerous goods from a raw material supplier located in China. The TQRA was produced using the DNV software application SAFETI.

Hazard and Operability Study Two comprehensive Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) revalidations were facilitated for this California chemical process plant in accordance with their regulatory Process Safety Management and Risk Management Plan obligations. Kensington Consulting assisted this plant which is also regulated under the Contra Costa County Industrial Safety Ordinance by training staff and facilitating the performance of their revalidations for electronic grade ammonium fluoride and hydrofluoric acid production processes.

CalOSHA Electrical Safe Work Program Assessment and Development Kensington Consulting project deliverables included a field audit and survey of electrical safe work practices focusing on shock hazards in the company research, development and quality assurance laboratories.

Food Processing

Due Diligence Kensington assisted this globally-recognized, international food distribution company during a potential process and facility acquisition. The task included examination of a novel processing technology which had potential impacts on work place safety.

Refining

NJ Toxic Catastrophe Prevention Act (TCPA) Program Audit Kensington Consulting assisted the client's Corporate Audit team in evaluating plant TCPA compliance programs. Kensington focus areas included evaluation of process safety information, hazard evaluations, closure of improvement recommendations as well review of the facility's Risk Management Plan.

OSHA Electrical Safe Work Program Assessment and Development Kensington Consulting project deliverables included a UC Berkeley campus survey of electrical safe work practices, enhanced program materials to meet California OSHA required electrical safe work needs, as well as NFPA70E arc flash and short circuit value calculations. Revised campus electrical safe work program documents addressed the needs of campus administrative, research, and skilled trade staff persons.

International Airport

California Building Code Review Kensington Consulting assisted this major California airport with a thorough assessment of occupant loading and egress to assure California Building Code compliance prior to commissioning a newly-constructed airport concourse. Kensington provided recommendations to airport management.

Biotechnology

California Fire Code Review Kensington Consulting conducted an in-depth California Fire Code review for this $10 billion biotechnology company site that performed both scientific research and manufacturing in Northern California. Kensington's services included a review of the facility's existing Hazardous Materials Management Plan and staff facilitation in creating an updated submittal for the regulatory agency.
Engineering Design Review for New Equipment Kensington Consulting guided this large SF - Bay area biotechnology company in identifying new process equipment design revisions directed at optimizing safety and efficiency. In this highly-regulated environment, all regulatory requirements were considered as well as operational cost and efficiency concerns. Kensington's process design review included training and facilitating a cross functional team in performing a process hazard assessment.
California Fire Code Review This California based, large biotechnology manufacturing facility required specific review and recommendations to assure compliance for its new gas-fired boiler facility. The project had a specific focus on the water treatment and chemical storage area. Kensington Consulting provided a facility Code review and assisted management with recommendations for efficient, compliant operation of the boiler facility.

Detailed Facility and Process Hazard Review and Evaluation Two comprehensive Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies were facilitated for this large, California wastewater treatment plant in accordance with their regulatory Process Safety Management and Risk Management Plan obligations. Kensington Consulting assisted this 400 mgd treatment plant by training staff and facilitating the performance of fresh HAZOP's for their chlorine disinfection process and digester gas (methane) producing processes.

Pharmaceutical

Cause - Consequence Analysis This large pharmaceutical research and manufacturing organization required assistance facilitating several cause consequence analyses using an internal protocol. Kensington Consulting facilitated the two design process hazard analysis using the cause consequence technique for their potent compound reactant and solvent handling, synthesis and drug post processing operations. Kensington deliverables included creation of a template specfic to their protocol within the IHS software application PHA-Pro®.

Process Hazard Analysis for Regulatory Compliance Kensington facilitated a what-if / checklist process hazards analysis for this globally-recognized, international food distribution company. The PHA analyzed their large anhydrous ammonia refrigeration process in California for operational, design, and external hazards as well as examined human factors which might contribute to an accidental release. Kensington assisted this client with a thorough evaluation of their existing PHA's including those produced for projects covered under change management in order to create a comprehensive assessment.

California Fire Code Review and Hazard and Operability Study Kensington Consulting conducted an in-depth California Fire Code review and facilitated a Hazard and Operability study for a flammable liquid storage and use process at this $1 billion, California biotechnology company manufacturing site.
Review and Recommendations on Fire Code and Waste Treatment Processes This internationally-known San Francisco Bay Area based biotechnology manufacturing and research company required updating of its hazardous materials management program, with specific attention to Fire Code compliance. Kensington Consulting created the necessary materials and facilitated a cross functional team in performing a what-if checklist analysis of an existing waste treatment process as well as assessing the company’s processes and facilities relative to Fire Code requirements.
Regulatory Finding Implementation Analysis Kensington reviewed the workplace safety consequences of implementing a finding made by a European drug regulatory agency. Potential impacts were analyzed and recommendations made to safely integrate the requirement into the facility operation. Specific Design for Complex, Campus-Wide Response Exercise and After-Action Report Kensington Consulting designed and implemented a multi-part emergency response exercise for the UC Davis campus. Kensington provided extensive project assistance identifying target capabilities for exercise and evaluation that were tailored to the specific needs of the campus and surrounding area. The exercise design and execution followed Federal Homeland Security guidance. The exercise scenario was developed and executed in concert with the University's County Operational Area and other participating agencies.
Customized Emergency Response Training Program Following a thorough investigation of current resources and processes, Kensington Consulting prepared a customized ICS-SEMS-NIMS training program for the UC Davis campus that fulfilled both UC System and local government requirements for emergency response. Kensington developed a ten-module combined course covering Incident Command System, Standardized Emergency Management System, and National Incident Management System training.
Specific Design for Complex, Campus-Wide Response Exercise and After-Action Report Kensington Consulting provided Emergency Operations Center (EOC) exercise design and implementation for the UC Davis campus which houses more than 30,000 students each year. Kensington guided a select campus team in identifying target capabilities for exercise and evaluation. Using guidelines designed to pursue the "National Preparedness Goal" Kensington Consulting created a compelling scenario, developed an exercise plan, controlled two exercise sessions and drafted an after-action report.

International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR) 36th Annual Meeting (2014) Kensington Consulting and their collaborators at Korf Technologies (Sarnia, ON) developed and presented the technical paper "Ammonia Refrigeration System Pressure Relief Vent Design Evaluation".

First and Second Annual Central Valley Chemical Safety Day This premier event for chemical safety in the California Central Valley attracts over 700 participants. Kensington Consulting has been chosen both years to present as part of the technical program. In 2009 Mr. Greulich presented an overview of Mechanical Integrity compliance as a critical Process Safety Management program component. In 2010 Mr. Greulich presented an overview of Program Self Auditing directed at aiding owners and operators in using their audits as an important program self improvement tool.

232nd American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition Kensington Consulting developed and presented innovative business survival material as part of the "Recovery from & Prevention of Natural Disasters" technical program.

California Specialized Training Institute: "Emergency Management for Business and Industry" Course Kensington was a member of the team presenting this new CSTI course offering, which provided hands-on crisis response planning and management resources for industry leaders. The course focused on operational, environmental, security and financial approaches to crisis response and business resumption.

First Annual San Joaquin Valley Ammonia Professionals Day This new program was designed to empower corporate and government leaders with practical compliance and risk management information. Kensington Consultants was selected to present "Process Hazard Evaluations Before, During, and After" as part of the technical program providing updated hazardous materials management information.

QUAKE 2006 "Business Survival Tutorial" Kensington was a member of the team which presented April 17th 2006 at the centennial earthquake conference in San Francisco.
